Chickenpox Vaccines

 

 

Chickenpox vaccines are available to prevent infection from the varicella zoster virus or VSV which causes Chickenpox.

Chickenpox is highly contagious to people who haven’t had the disease or have been vaccinated against it.  Although it is common in childhood specially below the age of 10, Chickenpox tends to be more severe if you get it as an adult. Of particular concern will be for women who gets infected with the varicella virus during pregnancy. Chickenpox can cause serious complications for both the pregnant woman and her baby. Currently, chickenpox is said to occur in approximately three in every 1,000 pregnancies.
